Meet Cùran™

Cùran™ (pronounced koo ran) is more than a mascot. They are the heart of everything we stand for.

Designed to embody care, strength, and safety, Cùran gives people the courage to speak, the comfort to breathe, and the quiet reminder that they are never alone. They help people come out of their shell. They offer protection in public spaces. And they make distress visible in ways that words alone often cannot.

Cùran uses they/them pronouns and has no fixed gender. That is because Cùran is everyone. Each person can see themselves in Cùran. Some may find a protector, others a friend, or even a part of themselves they thought they had lost. The point is, Cùran becomes who you need them to be. They are what you see when you are finally seen.

When you spot a Cùran plushie, hoodie, badge or sticker, you know you are with family. You are safe. You are heard. And you are believed.

Cùran is more than a mascot. Cùran is a symbol, a story, a friend. Born from lived experience, Cùran represents every child, teen or adult who has ever shut down, masked, avoided eye contact or stayed silent out of fear they would not be believed. Cùran carries no gender, no assigned condition, no expected personality. They simply exist, unapologetically and gently, as a presence of comfort and quiet strength.

We named the unseen. We gave voice to the invisible that no one else had. So we decided not to stop there. We named our mascot Cùran. While the word does not carry a direct meaning in Gaelic, it carries a Gaelic flair and a deliberate sense of identity. From this moment on, within the Unseen Barriers Foundation, Cùran means 'Little Warrior', or 'Little Champion'. It means someone who shows up quietly, fiercely, and without apology. Even if the wider world never adopts that meaning, it is what Cùran means to us, and to those who walk with them.

Cùran wears a black hoodie with green text that reads “Unseen Barriers”. This is not just merchandise. It is armour. It is visibility. It is a soft and powerful refusal to be ignored. The hoodie is intentionally oversized, allowing Cùran to hide when needed, or step forward when ready. Every detail of their design has been carefully chosen to avoid overwhelm, encourage connection and foster safety.

Cùran’s role in the Foundation is evolving every day. They appear in outreach work, on our website, in safeguarding training materials and in our merchandise. They will also feature in our future animation and storytelling projects, voiced by someone with lived experience and deep personal resonance with the character.

Cùran is not here to fix you. They are here to sit beside you while the world catches up.
